Sick-Season Medicine Cabinet Checklist

Sick-Season Medicine Cabinet Checklist

Your guide to staying prepared during cold and flu season

Cold and flu season is officially here, and nothing slows a household down faster than a surprise fever or a midnight cough. One of the easiest ways to reduce stress during sick season is to make sure your medicine cabinet is thoughtfully stocked before symptoms appear.

Below is our pediatrician-approved checklist to help your family stay prepared.

Thermometers: Accurate and Easy to Use

  • A reliable digital thermometer (to use under the arm for kids over 2 months)
  • Rectal thermometer for infants under 2 months

Fever and Pain Relief

For infants and children:

  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Genexa)
  • Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) — for babies 6 months and older

Always check dosing charts on our website for weight-based dosing.

Hydration Support

  • Pedialyte or another electrolyte solution
  • Ice pops or freeze pops

Cough and Cold Relief

  • Honey (only for children over 1 year of age)
  • Saline nasal spray or drops
  • Nasal aspirator or bulb syringe
  • Cool-mist humidifier

Tummy Trouble Essentials

  • Children’s probiotics
  • Oral rehydration packets

Skin and First-Aid Basics

Don’t Forget to Check Expiration Dates

Take a few minutes this week to check expiration dates and refill anything that’s running low.
